Books

So...a survey....

1 - What's the best book you read in 2007?

2 - What's the best book you read in 2007 that was published prior to 2007?

3 - What's the one book you read in 2007 that you wanted to like--that the critics liked, or loved--but you didn't?

4 - What's the best movie made from a book that you saw in 2007? (Didn't have to be made in 2007...)

5 - Any books you received as gifts recently that you want to read, are reading, or tried to read (and couldn't)?

Answer any or all......

Best Movie from a Book: The Diving Bell and the Butterfly (I believe that's the title) -- totally heart-wrenching and gripping. I LOVED this movie. (Amy Timberlake here -- having trouble with my google password.)

Gift Book: My friend, Rich, who works for Harper Collins, gave me a signed, limited edition of Elmore Leonard's "10 Rules of Writing." I will treasure it always. But never as much as my friendship with Rich. He has watched me toil at my laptop for years while commuting to and from New York City each day. Watching be bang out hundreds of thousands of words. And he always encourages me to keep going. A good guy.

The best book I read in 2007 was What Becomes You, by Aaron Raz Link and Hilda Raz; I read it after hearing the podcast your interview with them on WOW.

1. A Thousand Splendid Suns.

2. The Space Between Us by Thrity Umrigar, a local author here in Cleveland.

3. Saturday by Ian McEwan. I feel like a dunce because he's so lauded and I just don't enjoy reading him.

4. None, but I try to avoid these if I like a book.

5. Received Bel Canto by Ann Patchett at a book club book swap. I'm enjoying it so far!

5)Every book is a gift even if I have to buy it myself! That said, when I was 9, I was given a copy of 'The Random House Book Of Poetry For Children'. I still have it. It's autographed by Jack Prelutsky. Another great gift was a first edition of 'The Bells' by Edgar Allen Poe. It has a wooden cover, woodcut illustrations on every page, and gold guilded edges.
